The Joint Conference on Digital Libraries (JCDL 2005) was held in Denver, Colorado, in early June, and one of the activities at the conference was a poster and demonstration session chaired by Michael (Mick) Khoo, University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR). Nearly five dozen posters and demonstrations were accepted for JCDL 2005, and in the first article in this issue of the IEEE Technical Committee on Digital Libraries (TCDL) Bulletin, Mick provides a report on the session.

It was Ed Fox who first suggested that it would be good to feature the posters and demos in the IEEE TCDL Bulletin. (Ed chairs the executive committee of the IEEE TCDL.) I thought it was a great idea, and fortunately, Mick enthusiastically agreed to coordinate the submission of brief versions of the posters and demos, including – very importantly – images of the posters and demos that had been on display at JCDL 2005. I say "importantly" because although texts about the posters and demos were previously published by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) in the Proceedings of the 5th ACM/IEEE-CS Joint Conference on Digital libraries, for the most part those published items did not include images of the posters – and certainly not color images. Because the ACM did not require poster and demo authors to relinquish their rights to their work, the IEEE TCDL Bulletin is now able to republish and provide open access to them here. Mick issued invitations to all authors of JCDL 2005 posters and demos, and the authors of 30 of them responded with submissions.

Each article in this issue of the Bulletin includes both text and image(s). You will find a link beneath each thumbnail on the text page that leads to a larger version of the poster or demo image. Authors' email addresses are included in the bylines to the articles so that those who wish to contact the authors for further information can do so.

I hope you enjoy this issue of the IEEE TCDL Bulletin. My special thanks go to Ed Fox for his suggestion, Mick Khoo for his work coordinating the submissions and Catherine Rey, Corporation for National Research Initiatives, who again volunteered her help with the design of the Bulletin.

Production on the next issue of the IEEE TCDL Bulletin has already begun. It will feature papers from Doctoral Consortium held at the 9th European Conference on Research and Advanced Technology for Digital Libraries. Look for that issue toward the end of this year.
