Welcome to the charter issue of the IEEE TCDL Bulletin. This month's issue focuses on user interfaces for digital libraries and has as guest editor Richard Furuta, Texas A & M University. It was a pleasure to collaborate with Dr. Furuta in the production of this themed issue of the Bulletin, and special thanks go to Catherine Rey, Corporation for National Research Initiatives, who contributed to the design of the magazine.

It is anticipated that, in the future, other themed issues of the Bulletin will be produced in response to the interests of members of the IEEE Technical Committee on Digital Libraries (TCDL). Membership in the TCDL is open to everyone at no charge, and I encourage you to take advantage of membership to stay abreast of the work of the TCDL, as well as to help shape the Committee's agenda. (Please see <https://www.ieee-tcdl.org> for more information about the Committee, and <https://www.ieee-tcdl.org/join.html> for instructions on how to join the TCDL.)

A Call for Papers for the Bulletin was issued and distributed at the IEEE/ACM Joint Conference on Digital Libraries in May as well as published in D-Lib Magazine in June (http://www.dlib.org/dlib/june03/06clips.html#TCDL). Although the submission date for that Call for Papers has passed, the Bulletin welcomes article proposals for future issues. For more information, please contact the IEEE TCDL Bulletin editor, Bonita Wilson, at <bwilson@cnri.reston.va.us>. Guidelines for authors will appear soon at the IEEE TCDL web site (https://www.ieee-tcdl.org).
