The sixth annual ACM/IEEE Joint Conference on Digital Libraries was held on the campus of the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, NC
from June 11th to June 15th, 2006. The poster and
demonstration session was held on the evening of June 12th and
provided presenters and conference attendees an opportunity to discuss
their work informally over food and drinks. Prior to this reception,
presenters had an opportunity to promote their presentation and attract
conference attendees during the entertaining Minute Madness session. Kept
on schedule via the use of a punctuality-inspiring bike horn,
presenters had one minute each to pitch their entries via
traditional as well as creative avenues such as haikus and poems.
As usual the poster and demo session was a great venue for presenting
works-in-progress, late-breaking results, or other initiatives that would
benefit from discussion with the community. Rick Furuta (Posters Chair,
Texas A&M University) and Xia Lin (Demos Chair, Drexel University) put
together this year's posters and demos program with 35 poster and 13 demo
presentations participating. Attendees voted for the Best Poster
award, sponsored by University of North Carolina's School for Information
and Library Sciences, which went to Rodriguez, Bollen, and Van de
Sompel for their poster "An analysis of the bid behavior of the 2005 JCDL
program committee".
